Nuwakot Bull Fighting Festival

Taruka Bull Fighting Festival in Nepal

The annual bullfighting festival at Taruka Village (76 km north of Kathmandu Valley) in Nuwakot is going to be held on January 14 this year as organisers said.

The event is going to be organized on the auspicious occasion of Maghe Sankranti, one of the popular Hindu festival in Nepal and India will be a great highlight for visitors. Around fourteen bulls took part in the competition this year in a ring overlooking the stunning terraced hillsides of Nuwakot in front of huge crowd of visitors. For the annual bullfighting event, the bulls are selected when they are calves and are trained to fight. The festival is going popular in Nepal in different parts of the country, including Dhading, Rasuwa, Kathmandu, Pokhara, Lamjung and Tanahun.

As we operate the animal friendly tourism in Nepal, we strongly avoid and raise voice to save animals against such events that give torture to the animals. Bull is worshipped during the Tihar festival by Hindus and consider to the father. Also the bull is worshipped as the vahan or vehicle of Lord Shiva. Bullfighting was banned 20 years ago in neighboring India, but the event is going to be popular in Nepal.
